Taco Sauce

So my girlfriend made us some taquitos for dinner, and she guestimate whipped up this pretty good taco sauce from the ingredients list on the back of an empty pack of lawry's taco seasoning.

As im sitting there chomping down taquitos and sauce i got to thinking, and we got to pondering the origins of taco sauce.

Our reasoning was as follows:
1) We've both been to 8 bazillion "authentic" mexican food resturants.
2) The only place we've ever been served "taco sauce" is Taco Bell.

So that leads me to my theory:

"Taco Sauce" is an American invention, probably by Taco Bell, and probably does not exist outside of the United States.

Can we get any "real" mexicans in here to confirm or invalidate my theory?

THE JAMES STORIES: HALFWAY THERE

James was my best friend through high school. I've mentioned
him before. Black kid, brilliant. He was a guard on our school's
basketball team. He was too slow to be really great, but he had
great touch from the outside and played killer d. Our friendship
grew through countless games of halfcourt at a local playground.
He won about seventy percent of these. I couldn't drive on him,
but if my shot was on I'd just take a step back from the foul line
and keep popping them.
James took a lot of shit from both white and black kids. They
called him "Oreo" because he was "black on the outside, white on
the inside." He usually just said they were "ignorant" and let it
drop. Once I asked him why he never confronted anyone about it,
since he was pretty big(6'2", 180+).
He said, "What's the point? You can lose a fight. But if you
just keep doing what you're doing, ace every test, win every award,
this you can't lose. Got any reefer?"
So, high school ended and we went off to college. Once, James
came up to visit me at Cornell. We were wandering around the
Ithaca Commons, and stopped in at McDonald's for a bite. It was
April, still cold, and we got a few Big Macs, fries and Cokes, and
sat down. To my right was a table of about three skinny, black
high school girls. Behind James were two fortyish, heavyset, white
women.
The girls to our right were going on about something, very
animated, and we tried to catch what they were talking about. One
of them kept looking over at James, her mouth open.
"Girl," said one, "You crazy. Yoni ain't ever been nuthin'
but a ho', You *know* that's the truth."
The two women behind James were grumbling to each other,
peppering their dialogue with numerous 'Nigra's and "Can't stand
this place'. I could tell James was seething inside. But he just
kept eating, calm.
"Oh, this is the *shit*, said the one who'd been looking at
James, and turned up her radio.

"Slammin' bass line," said James to me.
"Oh yeah."
The girls were dancing in their seats.
Suddenly, loud enough for the girls to hear, one of the women

why do they have to be so damned *loud*."
The girls quickly turned off their radio.
James stood up and turned to face the two women.
"Lady, maybe it's because black folk know there's plenty of
time to be quiet once you're dead in the ground. You, you're
already halfway there."
The women left. The girls turned the song back on. James
turned back to me and sat down.
"Rich, you okay man? Your eyes..."

It never ceases to amaze me how the same people who will classify themselves by all sorts of distinctions regarding the nationalities of their ancestors insist on lumping anyone with some Jew in 'em into another "race". I actually had a somewhat bitter (and very frustrating) disagreement the other night with my sister's assistant, a person I'd believed to be fairly enlighted before this incident.

She asked me a question about my heritage or something--I wish I could remember the exact words, so I told her (to the best of my knowledge) where my great-grandparents had come from. When I finished she seemed very bewildered.

"So you're not Jewish?" she asked sincerely.

"No, I am not Jewish," I answered her.

"But, how... how can Debi be Jewish and you're not? I mean...Hebrew. Debi's Hebrew, right? So how is it possible that you're not?"

"Debi is not Hebrew and I don't believe she's Jewish, either, but you'd have to ask her," I said. Pretty straightforward answer, I thought, but this woman was bewildered.

She insisted someone had told her that my sister is Jewish, or Hebrew or something and I assured her that she was surely mistaken. As I'd just told her where all my family came from and none of those places were "Jewland" or even Israel, I was quite certain that we are not Hebrew, whatever the hell that means.

Why is it so hard for people to understand that being a jew is a choice, just like being a Scientologist, an atheist or agnostic--whatever? Or am I just deluded?

so, being fuckerpants, i go over to investigate. TURNS OUT it's a new play that's touring the midwest and the east coast. i won't get to see it cuz it doesn't come to seattle but it looks pretty damn good if you get a chance.

So I see the opening shots with Mofo in a 3 piece suit carrying a laptop and an Uzi walking through downtown Oakland. Then it cuts to scantily clad women of all rainbow varieties running after him, he turns and shoots them with whipped cream pellets and they act gratified . Mofo then faces the camera and smiles and his name appears.
The theme song would have to have a lot of 'wah wah' pedal la "Shaft."

So theres this coffee shop by my new place called "Powder Face" where you can get a Vietnamese Coffee *and* a Beignet (Creole style donut, no hole, deep fried on the spot when you order it, topped with powdered sugar) OR a desert crepe, along with all the standard cafe menu items.

almost every time i look at the google ads on the sides of my page, they're for chocolate products.
"chocolate shop"
"chocolate wedding favors"
etc.

i wonder what word i've typed in enough to make 'chocolate' be on my cookies list.

i can think back to elementary school. a friend, j, who was white and i (obviously black) categorized ourselves in flavors. i was chocolate, she was vanilla. she used to say that she was vanilla ice cream and i was the fudge sauce on top. i'd say, "uh uh, I'M chocolate ice cream and YOU'RE the whip cream on top." years later, around fifth grade or so, when a latino girl,d, was friends w/ us, we added another flavor. usually it ended up that i was chocolate syrup and d was butterscotch. i still would've preferred to be the prominent chocolate ice cream but since j was the oldest she had first choice.

anyway, when i see 'chocolate' advertisements, i can't help but think of those childhood incorporations of race and flavor. so of course i chuckle everytime i see those damn chocolate ads. laugh and roll my eyes.

so I go to this liqour store in my hood.
The guys who run this store are Yemeni (arabic).
They're pretty cool guys, very americanized.
They listen to hip hop, like to go to dance clubs etc.
